It is known that certain birds and mammals will rub themselves with fruit, leaves, or other plant parts for the apparent purpose of deterring pests, a phenomenon known as “anointing”.
As an example, animals have used lemons, limes, and other citrus fruits as anointing materials. Monkeys, in particular, when presented with lemons or limes, will immediately rub the fruit on their fur, presumably to repel biting insects.
Scientists have studied this phenomenon and have determined that these materials represent a potential source of new mosquito repellents.
The basis for the animal’s behavior, determined through scientific studies, has resulted in the identification of repellent ingredients present in a unique combination of essential oils that contain active ingredients that provide an effective, natural alternative to the typical chemical approach or Citronella-only method of repelling mosquitoes.
Many of these naturally occurring ingredients appear to inhibit the location of a host, and in higher concentrations act as repellents. Our Bite‑Lite® Candles feature this natural, proprietary “Cloak & Scatter® Technology”.
Bite‑Lite® Candles offer highly effective mosquito repellent candles with the added benefit of a pleasant aroma of lemongrass and spearmint. Bite‑Lite® Candles can be used on patios, balconies, backyard dining areas or other outdoor living areas.
To enjoy maximum protection, you should light these unique and effective candles 20 minutes before sitting outdoors, and place them in and around the area you want to protect. A simple guideline is “If you can smell the candle, you are protected. If you can’t, light another candle”.
